AcroMetrix offers Internet-based solutions and quality control products designed to make it easier for laboratories to validate new assays

AcroMetrix is one of the leading developers of molecular quality control standards and controls for labs that provide clinical diagnostic and blood testing. Their research has had tremendous impact on the medical testing community as well as the treatment of diseases all over the world.

AcroMetrix’s list of products and technologies include controls and standards that assist in the implementation and monitoring of diagnostic assays. In an exciting recent announcement, the company released their new panel, the OptiQuant-S HCV RNA Qualification. This new panel gives labs a critical component to help them better optimize their assays for Hepatitis C.

Michael Eck, President and CEO of AcroMetrix, is quoted as saying, “OptiQuant-S HCV represents our continued commitment to Hepatitis C diagnostic testing. Medical laboratories utilizing the new OptiQuant-S HCV Panel will experience the benefits of a standardized product that offers consistent results with an enhanced dynamic range; and as a result reducing patient re-testing requirements and increasing savings in both labor and reagent costs.”

The big news about OptiQuant is the inclusion of AcroMetrix’s proprietary technology called SynTura™. This technology involves second generation viral RNA material that acts much like enveloped mammalian RNA viruses like HIV and HCV.

SynTura™ allows researchers to insert synthetic sequences into mammalian RNA viruses that demonstrate stability in replication and are capable of forming infectious RNase resistant virus particles. This procedure will enable researchers to design defined RNA positive controls, quantify standards and create better internal controls and calibrations.

In addition to standardized medical technologies and solutions, AcroMetrix offers  Internet-based solutions and quality control products designed to make it easier for laboratories to validate new assays, train their technicians and set standards for creating notable quality control programs.

The impact of this new technology in the medical community remains to be seen, but many observers think it will be a huge tool in the fight against Hepatitis C. Researchers realize that more than 75% of all liver disease cases in the world can be attributed to viral Hepatitis B and C and this new technology will go a long way to seeing that number decrease. Since physicians routinely monitor 1 HCV patients to keep tabs on the amount of virus in their systems, having accurate viral load test results are important when determining treatment and drug therapies. The OptiQuant-S HCV RNA Qualification Panel will help ensure this accuracy.
